MTV Video Music Awards 2017 which took place at the Forum in Inglewood, California, was hosted by Katy Perry. The VMA this year saw a characteristically dramatic awards ceremony; Taylor Swift debuted her new video, Pink gave an emotive speech, and Jared Leto paid tribute to Chester Bennington.

Kendrick Lamar led the pack with eight nominations and picked up a cool six awards, including nods for Video of the Year, Artist of the Year, and more. MTV also introduced an award for Best Fight Against the System, which recognized videos that, according to a statement from MTV, “inspire viewers to stand up and fight injustice.” Big Sean, Logic, Alessia Cara, and every other nominee all took home the award.
